Baseball and softball, which currently hold Olympic status but were dropped from the London 2012 program, also aspire readmittance for 2016. This makes for a total of seven sports still vying for a berth on the Olympic Program for 2016. The final decision which one(s) will be admitted is made by the IOC Session in 2009.

Christophe Dubi, the IOC Sports Director, informed all Recognized International Federations about the outcome of a comprehensive review of their sports by his department . They all retained their status.
