The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck will play a repertoire which includes Tchaikovsky's '1812 Overture' and Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' to inaugurate the new World Games Stadium in Kaohsiung.

The '1812 Overture' is famous for its volley of cannon fire. Bursts of spectacular fireworks will enhance the accoustics on 20 May.

The choral section of the program will highlight the 400 voices of the Vienna State Opera Choir, the National Experimental Chorus, the National Sun Yat-sen University Music Department Women's Chorus and the Kaohsiung Medical University Singers.

The stadium's inauguration serves as a trial run for the Opening Ceremony of The World Games 2009. All systems will be tested: ticketing, traffic control, security, etc.
