After both parties had reaffirmed their respective committments, the Cali organisers and a delegation of the International World Games Association (IWGA) presented an update on the preparations for The World Games 2013 Cali to the media in Colombia.

Members of the Cali Organizing Committee, which is still in constitution at this point, and IWGA delegates coincided in their view that excellent collaboration and unity between them are paramount to the success of the games.

'We are one family,' IWGA President Ron Froehlich told the press, 'and we need to support each other.'

Outlining short-term milestones for 2010, representatives of national, regional and municipal sports authorities announced that the Cali Organizing Committee would formally be established in the first part of the year, and that the key corporate identity elements for The World Games 2013 would be presented by the end of August.

Cali will stage the multi-sport games together with two other cities in the Cauca Valley, at existing venues, from 25 Juli through 4 August 2013. An overall budget of 208 billion Colombian pesos (just over 100 million US$) has been allocated to the deliver outstanding games, and to attain other well defined objectives, such as civic engagement and sustainable urban development for Cali and the Cauca Valley region.

Just prior to the Coordination Commission meeting, the Mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, and the Director of the Colombian sports authority COLDEPORTE, Evert Bustamante, launched the extensive renovation work on the Pascual Guerrero Stadium. With a view to the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2011, which will also be held in Cali as well as seven other Columbian host cities, the 35,000-capacity multi-purpose stadium is to be renovated completely over the next 16 months.

An appropriate slogan for The World Games 2013 Cali has already been found too: “Fair Play for the Planet!”
