The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung are considered for a prestigious international award. The Global Sports Forum Trophies recognize achievements reflecting societal issues within and connected to sports.

The International World Games Association and the Kaohsiung Organizing Committee have submitted the successful edition of the games as a 'Major Sporting Events' project for the 2010 Global Sports Forum Trophy.

'Because sport reflects society!' is the appropriate slogan for the 2010 Global Sports Forum held from 8 to 10 March 2010 in Barcelona, Spain. After all, the slogan encapsulates one of the guiding principles which the Catalan capital adhered to  when it hosted the memorable Olympic Games in 1992.

The Global Sports Forum Trophies will be presented for the first time this year and the eight winners will receive an award created by the young sculptress Pepa Galindo, whose design was selected following a competition held by Barcelona City Council.

Projects and programs in the following categories are being considered for the 2010 Trophies:

Sport Business: projects with a social impact, embarked on by companies and brands
Sport and Health: initiatives that set out to raise public awareness about health issues
Sport and Education: programmes aiming to promote values of citizenship through sport; projects promoting education, training and vocational integration through sport
Sport and Geopolitics: projects designed to bring about peace and development in the world, and political initiatives
Sport, Culture and Creativity: initiatives displaying a certain amount of originality and featuring a marked artistic and/or cultural dimension
Major Sporting Events: projects linked to major sporting events
Philanthropy and Cooperation through Sports: programmes that seek to promote international cooperation
Sport in the City: initiatives designed to strengthen social cohesion and integration between urban communities and minorities
