Global Sports Forum Press Release

As the Global Sports Forum (8 to 10 March) fast approaches, the event’s organisers are delighted and proud of the great interest that has been shown in the Global Sports Forum Barcelona Trophies, a key innovation for the 2010 edition. No less than 49 projects, currently being run all over the world, were entered by NGOs, companies, organisations, foundations and universities. The initiatives themselves demonstrate great variety, in line with the themes of the Global Sports Forum Barcelona. In addition, and by the scope of their achievements, the projects underline the diversity of the countries involved (every one of the world’s continents is represented: North and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania).

The objective of these Trophies is to showcase high-quality sport-related initiatives that have succeeded in reflecting the major issues and trends at the heart of the debates due to take place throughout the Forum, in the following categories: Sport and Education, Sport Business, Sport, Culture and Creativity, Sport in the City, Major Sports Events, Sport, Philanthropy and Cooperation, Sport and Geopolitics, as well as Sport and Health.

The 49 projects have been passed on to the judging panel - made up of speakers from the 2009 Forum - in order that they select up to four projects per category, according to the following criteria: innovation, social impact and a capacity to overcome certain challenges. The divergence present within the group as well as their sincere interest in sport within society are both excellent guarantees of the quality and legitimacy of the process.
