Ron Froehlich, President of the International World Games Association (IWGA), was awarded with the Olympic Order. IOC President Jacques Rogge himself honored him during a ceremony held in Lausanne on Olympic Day, 23 June 2010.

The ceremony in the IOC Headquarters was held in the presence of the IOC Executive Board, IOC members as well as friends and family of Ron Froehlich. His wife Shirley and daughter Elana attended the ceremony.

The IOC decorated the US-American Ron Froehlich for his services rendered to the Olympic Movement and his dedication to the Olympic Family. He was elected  IWGA President in 1992. This year, during the Annual General Meeting in Dubai, he was confirmed in office for another four-year term.

In addition to his responsibilities as IWGA President, Ron Froehlich (71) works as an auditor for the FIG. He is also a member of the IOC Olympic Program Commission.

The award pays tribute to his 48 years as a sports administrator. 'I am a volunteer. And I am proud of it,”  Froehlich describes himself and his dedication to sports. Upon being asked what motivated him during almost five decades, he replies: “Everything that I do is for the athletes. They take center stage.“

In his speech during the awarding ceremony he emphasized: “It is a serious commitment that allows sports administrators to create opportunities for the millions of young people who participate in sport.”

Ron Froehlich commented the award with the following words: “The IOC and its constituents work to create the peaceful gathering of athletes from around the world through such events as the Olympic Games, The World Games, World Championships, and now the upcoming Youth Olympic Games. The reward of participating in these types of undertakings defies description. I am proud to stand together with my friends from the Olympic Family on this journey toward solidarity in sports.”
