I am just an ordinary child; however, I cheerfully clap and dance to the rhythm of life. I witness a different side of me after beginning my journey in dancing. Pondering back, I must have developed a phobia for those pointed shoes and lost hope in myself. However, throughout these couple of years in Kaohsiung, my dancing passion in Hip-Hop has enthused me and brought me content in life. My weakness and clumsiness in athletic sports often drained my anticipation for certain sport achievements. Nonetheless, my perspective changed upon reading this statement from The World Games 2009 website: “It was in the 1920’s that dance became recognized as a sport.” Never will I need to look upon the floor, never will I hide in the corner of the gym; never will I have to agonize about playing a sport.
With overwhelming confidence in myself, I am now assisting the Dance Club in KAS (Kaohsiung American School), striving beyond my limits during my senior year. However intricate it might seem, my heart is determined to guide the entire dance club into performing a remarkable dance at the 2007 KAS Fun Fair on November 17. I deeply believe that this same determination burns in every contestant preparing for The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung. It is hardship that brings achievement. It is pain that brings medals. Most importantly, it isperseverance that brings success. Although a contestant might fall upon a swing or turn, her determination for dancing pulls her back onto the flow of music. I will never look back and count the drops of sweat that once fell upon the dance floor or count the injuries all over me. I believe that the most important isn’t the scars in me but the new layer of skin that will reflect the brand new me!
As I explore the world of dance, I perceive some unique differences between all kinds of dance. The 4/4 rhythm in most Latin dances grasp the attention of its audience based on its fast- paced movements, while ballroom dancing sooths the audience with its smooth and graceful music. However different they might be from Hip-Hop, they represent the lives of dancers, the passion of performers, and the heart of audiences. As they step onto the polished dance floor in their glittering costumes, swift movements begin their journey of passion. They flow to the music and never stop until the last pose of life.
I deeply look forward to that particular day, not just any ordinary day, when the KAS dancers shine on the magnificent stage, dancing to the rhythm and the beat of the KAS spirit, my life and my soul. After this memorable event at The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung City, I will not have won any medals or awards, because I yearn and desire for something more worthy— my everlasting passion in dancing.
