The International World Games Association has opened the bidding process for The 10th World Games in 2017. In a PowerPoint presentation the IWGA has published preliminary information for candidate host cities. The first briefing for prospective bidders is now available from a dedicated website (click here).
The bidding and awarding process will be completed in two years’ time, when the contract is signed with the hosts for 2017. The IWGA has already received some expressions of interest by possible host cities, including the Polish capital Warsaw, the Hungarian capital Budapest, St. Petersburg (RUS and Louisville /Kentucky (USA).
With Cali (COL) being the host city, the 2013 games will be staged on the South American continent for the first time. In 2009 the harbour city Kaohsiung (TPE) hosted the 8th edition. There The World Games 2009 attracted approximately 1.7 million people. Duisburg (GER) staged The World Games 2005 and registered 500,000 visitors to the 11-day sports event.
The multi-sport event takes place every four years in the year following the Summer Olympics. It showcases 30+ non-Olympic sports, including DanceSport, Squash, Tug of War, Sumo or Karate. About 3,500 athletes from more than 100 countries fight for gold in their disciplines during The World Games.
