Shyh-fang Liu, the Managing Director of KOC, presented during the Annual General Meeting of the IWGA in Dubai a positive summary of The 8th World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung. Between 16 and 26 July the games in the harbour city in the south of Chinese Taipei pulled more than 1.5 million visitors to the venues and The World Games Plaza. Moreover, the multi-sport event attracted major attention by the media, above all in Asia.

Mr. Liu presented some numbers emphasizing the achievement: “The World Games 2009 held 26 official sports, 5 invitational sports . We had 2,908 athletes from 84 countries, in another way, we had 4,421 people (including Athletes, Judges and Officials) from 103 countries participated The World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung.”

The Opening Ceremony was broadcasted on six channels with the average rating of over 5%, about 8,000,000 viewers enjoyed the Opening Ceremony and the Opening Ceremony was also internationally broadcasted in eleven countries.

The hosts, highly praised for their efficient organization and warm-heartedness in dealing with the athletes, set up two genuine world records in terms of numbers of visitors: An audience of over 17,000 watched the finals in Dance Sports in the Kaohsiung Dome. Never has a dance competition pulled such a crowd. Another number unmatched so far: More than 20,000 people followed the preliminary match in Ultimate Frisbee between Chinese Taipei and the United  States in the Main Stadium, newly built especially for The World Games. At the Closing Ceremony in the sold-out stadium on 26 July 2009 Ron Froehlich spoke of the “best World Games ever”. Froehlich: ”In comparison with Duisburg in 2005, we could make considerable progress in many areas. Kaohsiung used the opportunity to secure a position as a host to top-level international sports events." Kaohsiung set a new benchmark for the next host.
