The Netherlands won the 5th World Youth Korfball Championships in Kaohsiung (TPE) with a 23-11 win over hosts Chinese Taipei, thereby maintaining their perfect record over five World Youth Championships.

Despite losing, Chinese Taipei made history by being the first team from outside Europe to win through to the final of a World Championship. 2003 silver medalists Belgium won the bronze on this occasion by beating Russia 26-10.

Final Standings:

1 Netherlands; 2 Chinese Taipei; 3 Belgium; 4 Russia; 5 Catalonia; 6 England; 7 Germany; 8 Czech Republic; 9 Australia; 10 Hong Kong China; 11 China; 12 South Africa

The 2008 World Youth Korfball Championships served as an official Pre-Event to The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung. The youth (under 23 years old) team from the host country performing at this unprecedented level bodes well for the Chinese Taipei medal count in next year's multi-sport games.
